INDICATIONS

Uroxate (Flavoxate) reduces muscle spasms of the bladder and urinary tract.

Uroxate is used to treat bladder symptoms such as frequent or urgent urination, increased night-time urination, bladder pain, and incontinence (urine leakage). These bladder symptoms are often caused by overactive bladder, prostate enlargement, bladder infections, or irritation of the urethra.
Uroxate will not treat a bacterial or fungal bladder infection. Infections must be treated with an antibiotic.

Uroxate may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

INSTRUCTIONS

Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
An extra patient leaflet is available with Uroxate. Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions about this information. Take Uroxate by mouth 30 minutes after eating the same meal each day.
Swallow Uroxate whole. Do not break, crush, chew, or open capsules before swallowing.
If you miss a dose of  Uroxate, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once. If you miss more than 2 dose of Uroxate , contact your doctor for instructions.

DOSAGE 

Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended.

STORAGE 

Store this product at the room temperature of 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Brief storage between 59-86 degrees (15-30 degrees C) is permitted.

SAFETY INFORMATION

You should not use this medication if you are allergic to Uroxate, or if you have untreated or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, a blockage in your digestive tract (stomach or intestines), or if you are unable to urinate.

Before using Uroxate, tell your doctor if you have glaucoma or urinary problems.
Uroxate can cause drowsiness or blurred vision. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert and able to see clearly. There may be other medicines that can interact with flavoxate. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor. Keep a list with you of all the medicines you use and show this list to any doctor or other healthcare provider who treats you.

Stop using this medication and call your doctor if you have serious side effects such as hot and dry skin, confusion, pounding heartbeats, fluttering in your chest, or if you stop urinating.

Be sure your doctor knows if you have:

a blockage in your stomach or intestines;

a history of stomach ulcer or bleeding; or

if you are unable to urinate.

Before using it, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have:

glaucoma; or

urinary problems.

If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take Uroxate.
FDA pregnancy category B. This medication is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether flavoxate passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

SIDE EFFECTS

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using flavoxate and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:


hot, dry skin and extreme thirst;

confusion;

pounding heartbeats, fluttering in your chest; or

urinating less than usual or not at all.

Less serious side effects may include:

dry mouth;

blurred vision;

nausea, vomiting;

drowsiness, nervousness;

spinning sensation;

headache; or

fever.

The oral LD50 for flavoxate HCl in rats is 4273 mg/kg. The oral LD50 for flavoxate HCl in mice is 1837 mg/kg. Symptoms of overdose include convulsions, decreased ability to sweat, (warm, red skin, dry mouth, and increased body temperature), hallucinations, increased heart rate and blood pressure, and mental confusion.
